Riverpark 3.0

Kearsarge Riverpark (North Reading, MA)

About the Project:

The River Park battery energy storage system (BESS), developed in partnership between Kearsarge Energy and the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) in North Reading, MA began operations in May 2025. This 10 MW/20 MWh standalone battery storage system enhances grid resiliency and enables significant peak demand reduction. By lowering transmission and capacity costs—nearly 40% of RMLD’s cost structure—the system delivers real savings for customers while reducing reliance on carbon-intensive peaking plants. Located on the Teradyne campus, the facility includes advanced safety features and occupies just half an acre. As RMLD’s third energy storage facility, it plays a key role in supporting climate goals and clean energy reliability. This project showcases Kearsarge’s commitment to public-private collaboration, and supports its overall mission to drive development of sustainable, cost-effective energy infrastructure.
